Newtown showcased in Heritage Festival
The Wellington Heritage Festival runs 26th October - 17th November and there are a whopping 11 events in and about Te Whanganui-a-Tara's best lil 'burb! Here are some events we're hosting, or running ourselves, here at the Community Centre!
- Newtown (and beyond) on Film - 7.30pm, Weds 30th October & 4.30pm, Saturday 2nd November, a special collection of archival film that illustrate some key events in Newtown & Pōneke’s history.
- Newtown's Flora, Fauna, Land and Waterways - 7.15-8.30pm, Nov 6, a talk in two parts about the history of Newtown's natural environment, by Yadana Saw and Paul Forrest.
- "Gowns, Streams, and Essence of Filth" – The Archaeology of Newtown -7.00-8.15pm, Nov 7, an illustrated talk by Mary O'Keeffe about life in early Newtown.
- Renovations: housing in 1970s-80s and Newtown Community Centre in 2023 - 7-9pm Nov 13. Two linked talks - Peter Healy on Urban Renewal 1970s-1980s, and Eryn Gribble and Ellie Clayton on the history and renovation of the Newtown Community Centre / Te Whare Hapori o Ngā Puna Waiora.
